The Governors would like to extend a very warm welcome to the new parents who have become a part of Hilltop Junior School this academic year. It is lovely to see all the new children settling into school so well.

We would like to take the opportunity to briefly explain what we do in our role as a School Governor:

Governors work alongside the Headteacher regarding the strategic planning for the school and meet at least once every term.

Additionally, Governors each belong to a sub-committee that meets half termly. The sub-committees monitor the resources in the school, agree budgets, look at expenditure and ensure financial regulations are being met. We consider personnel changes, and performance reviews. We ensure regular health and safety checks are undertaken, buildings are maintained and safeguarding procedures are being met. The curriculum is also a large focus of our role; we agree targets for pupil achievement, monitor pupil progress and results and ensure extended services are provided. We agree policies, procedures, and the School Improvement Plan then ensure these are adhered to. We also ensure that hot school meals meet the National Standards laid down by the Government.

Governors have individual responsibilities for such matters as child protection, special needs, more able pupils, race equality and the monitoring of subjects taught. Governors visit the school as part of these individual roles.

Each Governor is also assigned to a class. They make regular visits into school and spend time with their class.

This of course is only a summary of our responsibilities. We do not get involved in the day to day running of the school as this is the Headteacher's role.

We would like to thank parents for all their support and Mrs Waite and her staff for all their hard work and commitment.
